Weekly Wine Bullets (Aug 22)
Star Wars wine pairings, watercolors, and house Champagne
Happy Friday friends. Enjoy this week’s Wine Bullets, and hit reply to let me know what you’ve been drinking recently.
Podcast I'm listening to
The wildly unhinged wine podcast Disgorgeous just kicked off their new season with Star Wines, a series where they are pairing wines with the Star Wars movies. Hell yeah. As someone who also explores wine pairings beyond just taste (like music) I love this. Here’s the first episode.
Cork Beats (wine+music pairings)
Arnaud Lambert’s Saumur Champigny (Cabernet Franc) paired with Peur des filles by L'Imperatrice. Find a balcony and a couple good friends, put on this French nu-disco track, and drink this bottle well into the late evening.
Art I'm appreciating
Watch this video of Spanish artist Alfonso Aguiree who paints watercolors not with water but with wine.
Wine news this week
Phylloxera detected in the Canary Islands — this destructive pest was unfortunately detected in the Canary Islands for the first time. For those unfamiliar with phylloxera, it's an insect native to North America that decimated 80% of Europe's vineyards in the 19th century. Practically all vines in Europe are now grafted onto American rootstock, which is resistant to the pest. However, some isolated locations like the Canary Islands still have old ungrafted vines. Hopefully they are able to contain it.
Very large bottle I drank
Andre Clouet has become our "house Champagne". It's reasonably priced (for Champagne at least), fairly easy to find, and delicious. I picked up a 3 liter of it for our housewarming party this past weekend.
Have a great weekend!
